Email Scanner Setup

Connect Your Gmail in
Just a Few Clicks

FinalKey's Email Scanner searches your Gmail inbox and automatically discovers the accounts, subscriptions, and services you use — so you don't have to hunt them down one by one.

What the Email Scanner Does

Find accounts you forgot you had.

Most people have 50–100 accounts scattered across their email. Banks you've moved away from, subscriptions you forgot to cancel, retailers you shopped at once two years ago. The Email Scanner finds all of them by scanning for account signups, statements, and login emails — right from your Gmail.

🏦

Bank & Financial Accounts

Discovers statements, alerts, and logins from your banks and investment platforms.

📋

Insurance Policies

Finds renewal notices, policy documents, and account setup emails from insurers.

🛒

Subscriptions & Retailers

Uncovers the accounts you signed up for but never use — including free trials you forgot about.

🔑

Welcome & Login Emails

Pulls account creation and confirmation emails you may have lost track of.

💳

Payment Accounts

Identifies PayPal, Venmo, Stripe, and other payment platforms you use.

📱

Online Services

Discovers Shopify, Fiverr, eBay, and other online business accounts.

Step-by-Step Setup

Connecting takes under 2 minutes.

Google uses a secure standard called OAuth to let apps access your Gmail — without ever seeing your password. Here's exactly what to do.

1

Open FinalKey and go to Scan

Sign in to your FinalKey account and click the Scan tab at the top of the page. Look for the "Connect Gmail" button — it's a green button near the top of the Scan page.

🖥️

Look for this: A green "Connect Gmail" button in the Scan tab. Click it to start the connection.

2

You may see a Google sign-in screen

If you're not already signed into Google in your browser, Google will ask you to sign in. Use the same Gmail address you want FinalKey to scan. This is a standard Google screen — FinalKey does not control it.

3

Review Google's permission screen

Google will show you exactly what you're allowing FinalKey to do. Here's what each permission means:

🔍

"See your email messages" — This lets FinalKey read email headers (From address, subject, date) to find which companies have sent you messages. FinalKey does not read the full content of your emails — just the sender information it needs to identify accounts.

4

Click "Allow" to confirm

Once you click Allow, Google sends a secure code back to FinalKey — FinalKey never sees your Google password. After you allow access, you'll be redirected back to FinalKey and you'll see a confirmation message.

Success! You'll see "Gmail connected" in the Scan tab. The scan starts automatically — usually takes 30–60 seconds.

5

Review your discoveries

Once the scan is done, FinalKey shows you everything it found — organized by category (bank accounts, insurance, subscriptions, etc.). You can save each one to your vault with a single click. Any accounts you don't want to add, you can dismiss.

Your privacy is protected.

We know handing over access to your email feels big. Here's exactly what we do — and don't do — with your Gmail data.

Managing Your Connection

How to disconnect or revoke access.

You can remove FinalKey's access to your Gmail at any time. You can do this in two places:

🔄 Option 1: From inside FinalKey

Go to the Scan tab in your FinalKey account. Find the Gmail section and click the "Disconnect Gmail" button. This removes FinalKey's access immediately.

  1. Go to Scan tab in FinalKey
  2. Find the Gmail connection status at the top
  3. Click "Disconnect Gmail"
  4. Confirm — that's it

🔒 Option 2: From your Google Account

Google lets you review and remove all third-party app connections directly from your Google account settings. Use this if you want to see everything connected to your account at once.

  1. Go to myaccount.google.com/permissions
  2. Find "FinalKey" in the list
  3. Click it and select "Remove access"

Something not working? Here's what to check.

? The scan ran but found nothing — why?
This can happen if the email address you connected doesn't have many account emails in it. Try connecting a different Gmail address (like an old one you used to sign up for accounts). Also: the scan looks at the last 2 years of email — if you use email heavily but clear it frequently, there may be less to find.
? I got a "Gmail API not enabled" error — what does that mean?
This is a temporary setup issue on our end — we're finishing the Gmail API configuration on our side. Please try again in 24 hours. Your connection will work properly once this is complete.
? Google says FinalKey is "unverified" — is this safe?
Google requires apps to go through an approval process for broad public use. FinalKey is currently going through this process. During this period, Google may show a "unverified app" screen. You can still proceed by clicking "Advanced" and then "Go to FinalKey (unsafe)" — this is safe and temporary. We'll be fully verified soon.
? My Gmail is a work account — will this work?
FinalKey works best with personal Gmail accounts. Work accounts often have Google admin policies that block third-party apps. If your work account is managed by an employer, check with your IT team about whether they allow OAuth connections.
? Can I use this with a different email provider?
Currently, FinalKey's Email Scanner supports Gmail. We're planning to add other email providers in the future. For now, you can still add accounts manually by clicking "Add Entry" in your vault.
